26th April 2025 - HBCC 2nd XI vs Notton (H)

The Bridge 2nd XI kicked off their summer league campaign at home against newly promoted Notton, with the visitors opting to bat first. Farzan and Alex opened the bowling, setting the tone with disciplined spells under warm skies.

Notton applied some early pressure, but it was the ever-reliable Farzan who made the breakthrough, producing one of his trademark spells to shift the momentum. His efforts sparked a collapse, with Notton slipping to 30 for 3. However, several dropped chances during the middle overs allowed Notton’s middle order to regroup and apply pressure back on the bowlers.

Despite the setbacks, the Bridge bowlers held their nerve and wrapped up the innings in the 40th over, dismissing Notton for 156. It was a strong collective effort with Farzan, Alex, and Dan each picking up three wickets, while debutant Leo chipped in with one on a very promising first appearance.

In response, the Bridge made a cautious start, reaching 40 for 2 after ten overs. Alex and George both fell to off-spinner Barnsley, whose accuracy and variation caused problems throughout. Leo and Tim set about rebuilding, with the debutant showing incredible composure at the crease. Tim anchored one end but was eventually dismissed for a patient 7 off around 90 balls after a miscommunication led to a run-out.

With 60 needed from the final ten overs, the pressure mounted. Leo's impressive debut knock came to an end on 42, and quick wickets followed as Farzan and Dan departed soon after. Some late resistance from Mic and Ryan ensured the Bridge secured a valuable second batting point, but the chase ultimately fell short.

The innings wrapped up with the Bridge all out for 134, Mic the last to go following a controversial decision. Barnsley was the standout with the ball, claiming superb figures of 5 for 27, well supported by Hunter and Badar, who took two wickets apiece.

Final Result:
Notton: 156 all out (40 overs)
The Bridge 2nd XI: 134 all out
Notton win by 22 runs

Man of the Match: Leo Marshall

A promising debut for Leo at Squirrell Park, contributing with both bat and ball. His well-made 42 anchored the innings during a crucial period, and he also chipped in with a wicket to round off a very productive first outing for the Bridge’s 2s.
