23rd August 2025 - HBCC 1st XI vs Rossington Main CC (H)

1st Innings

HBCC win the toss and choose to bowl.

We knew the rain was coming, so it was an important toss to win and get the opposition in, bowl them out and knock it off as soon as possible. Jack and Arslan were the only bowlers needed as Waring kept his place at the top of the rankings (6-11) & Arslan finishing with figures of 4-31. Waring was accurate; bowling 4 batsman, trapping one lbw and getting one batsman caught at mid off with Waterson taking a safe grab.

Rossington were bowled out in 17.5 overs.

2nd Innings

Our opening pair went out to bat, Josh looking stylish as ever for his 36*, hitting some big shots away to the boundary. He was lucky on the very first ball where he skied a full toss and for some odd reason, it was first slip who ended up going for it and dropping it, rather than the safe hands of the keeper. Josh went on to hit 5 fours and an almighty six, hopefully giving him confidence for next week’s important clash for second place. Ben got a send off from a lad who plays cricket in grey roadman joggers and from a ball that rolled. This is the same lad who got a wicket off a no ball and squared up to big Josh H and said ‘I still got you out tho’. ‘So why am I still here?’ Replied Josh; silencing the bowler, had a bit of push and a shove, got surrounded by 5 kids and walked off to the middle to meet his batting partner whilst they argued with the umpire. What a bloke.

We look forward to probably one of our most important games next week, with a win confirming our place in the championship. A couple of game winning performances required from players who need to stand up in the absence of some regulars but we go with full confidence and no pressure to bring promotion home.
